FAQ

What is Melomaniac?

Melomaniac is a listening-first music platform where you can rate albums, write liner notes, build lists and discover what others are hearing. It's not a streaming service, it's a space for real listening and honest writing about music, with real people at the center instead of an algorithm.

How is this different from other music sites?

We prioritise reading comfort and writing quality over engagement metrics. No infinite scroll, no follower counts, no cluttered reactions. Just albums, liner notes and a community that actually reads what you write.

Can I listen to music on Melomaniac?

No. Melomaniac isn't a streaming service. We're focused on rating, writing and discussion, not playback.

What's a liner note?

A liner note is your writing about an album, a few honest lines about why it matters to you. Liner notes stay attached to the album for good, and the ones written during that week's Listening Club get marked with a small icon so people know it was part of the conversation.

How long can a liner note be?

Liner notes run from 10 to 320 characters. Short by design, a few honest lines rather than a full essay. It keeps the writing quality high and easy to actually read.

What are lists?

Lists are curated collections of albums. Build a list for anything, favourite albums of the year, albums that changed your life, albums for rainy days, whatever you want, and share it with people who'll get it.

What's the Stack?

Your Stack is your personal collection, the albums you've rated, reviewed or added, all in one place on your profile.

What's an Echo?

An Echo is how you show a liner note moved you. Not a like, more like a nod that says "this got it right."

What are Listeners?

Listeners are the people you follow, and the people who follow you. Follow the ones whose taste you trust and see what they're rating, writing and recommending.

What's the Listening Club?

A new Listening Club runs every day of the week, each with its own theme, running for seven days. Whether it's your first time with the album or your hundredth, you write your liner note and share your thoughts with the community as you go.

How do Recommendations work?

Ask the community for a recommendation and real people, not an algorithm, will tell you what's worth your time. You can ask for one or respond to someone else's.

Where does the album data come from?

Album and artist information comes from MusicBrainz, a community-maintained open music encyclopedia. Cover art comes from the Cover Art Archive.

Can I make my profile private?

Yes. Set your profile to private and your liner notes, lists and Stack are hidden from public view. Your account stays fully functional, you can still rate, write and build lists, but only you can see them.

How do I delete my account?

Go to your own profile page and choose Delete account. You’ll be asked for your password. Your personal information is removed straight away; published liner notes and public lists stay up but show as a deleted listener. You can also email legal@melomaniac.fm.

Can I edit or delete my liner notes?

Yes, at any time.

What if I find spam or inappropriate content?

Use the "Report" button on any liner note. Our moderation team reviews all reports.

Is Melomaniac free?

Melomaniac is free to use, and always will be. If you want to help keep it independent, ad-free and algorithm-free, you can support it with a subscription.

What is a Founding Melomaniac?

Founding Melomaniacs are the first wave of members who joined during Phase 1. They helped shape what this place became.

How do I join? Is it invite-only?

Yes, Melomaniac is currently invite-only. Get invited by someone already on the platform, or join the waitlist and we'll be in touch.

What's "early access"?

Melomaniac is currently in early access, still being built and refined. Your feedback helps shape what we become.
